At the checkout, a friendly monk took my souvenir. ‘Would you like me to bless your gift?’, he asked me in a soft voice. He made a Sign of the Cross and went into a silent and intense prayer. After a moment he opened his eyes again, handed over the little paper bag and wished me a pleasant day. By just showing some sincere attention, he had succeeded in making a simple transaction into a heart-warming and lasting experience.
I strongly believe that the same principle goes for education. Regardless of the quality of the used methods, work forms and learning strategies… At the end of the day it is the genuine, personal care and understanding towards your students that makes the difference.
